A woman revealed she was branded as a “monster” after trying to stop her husband from attending his ex-wife’s funeral.
The lady in question took her issues to Reddit and revealed she has always resented her husband’s former wife even though the man made it clear that she still meant a lot to him after their breakup because they knew each other for decades.
“The way he tells it: They were friends in college, decided to date, got married, then realized they weren’t a great couple and decided to just be friends. All that happened years before I met him,” she explained.
Though the woman previously expressed her jealousy over her husband’s close relationship with his ex, the man allegedly put her concerns to rest by reassuring her that they were nothing more than just friends.
He also warned her not to try and get between him and his ex as soon as they started dating.
“If you have a serious issue with it, let me know now and save us some time. I’ll choose her,” he allegedly told her.
“I like you and all, but I’ve known her for over 12 years and she’s one of the most important people in my life. You’ll have to be ok with that if you want us to be a thing.”
The disgruntled wife went on to say she has since always resented her husband’s ex-wife even though she tried to “suck it up” for the sake of her marriage.
“I resented every moment of knowing her, especially when we had to be social. She understood some part of him I couldn’t. Her husband was friends with mine as well, so it’s not like I could use him as an angle,” she added.
“He’d have lunch with the ex, they’d go to their geeky movies, and whatever. The few times I brought it up he said, ‘We had this conversation before. You had your chance to back out.’”
While the relationship went on like this for twelve years, a fresh rift opened up between the pair after the man’s ex died of an aneurysm.
“He spent a bunch of time crying, but honestly I was relieved,” the woman recalled as she revealed she tried to ban her husband from going to the ex’s funeral.
“He had his cry for a couple days, he gets to be done with mourning her already. There’s no need for him to go to her funeral, since I wouldn’t want her at his.”
In response, the man lashed out at his wife and threatened to “burn” their marriage to the ground.
“Him, her husband and my sisters are calling me an insensitive a***** over this, all saying that there was no romantic aspect to their relationship, and that I’m heartless. Her husband went so far as calling me a ‘ghoul’ for how I’ve reacted,” the woman concluded.
“I never felt their relationship was appropriate, and I hid that for years because I wanted to be with my husband. Now that she’s gone, I don’t feel I should have to hide it anymore, and can speak freely.”
After asking Reddit for advice, the woman was quickly branded an a**hole with people telling her she backstabbed her husband when he needed her the most.
Others went on to suggest that her husband didn’t need her permission to attend his best friend’s funeral no matter how much she despised her.
