A young woman sparked a debate and divided opinions as she revealed her friend has been fuming ever since she refused to lend her money for gas.
The anonymous woman in question took to Mumsnet to explain how her friend messaged her only to request $20 for gas while promising to pay it back by the end of next week.
Since this wasn’t the first time the “spongy” friend asked to borrow money, the woman said she didn’t think long before turning her down.
She also said she didn’t want to worry about whether she would get the money back in time or encourage her friend to demand more loans in the future.
“My friend has sent me a DM asking for $20 for petrol money and said she can pay it back next Sunday,” the poster wrote.
“Am I being a cow for not wanting to? It’s just that she’s asked recently and I said no and I feel if I said yes it’d become a regular thing.
“It may be only $20 this time but it could be $100 next time. And I don’t need the anxiety or the idea of it not being paid back for the next seven days.”
After asking the forum if it was normal for people to borrow money from their friends, the woman received mixed responses from the readers.
While some agreed with her approach and praised her for standing her ground, others suggested she wasn’t being a very good friend.
