After slapping the 94th Academy Awards host Chris Rock in the face, Will Smith has been feeling the heat from all sides while facing expulsion from the Academy and its future events.

In a bid to save his career from what can’t be undone, the A-list actor has since apologized to Rock, the Academy, and the viewers for his “inexcusable” actions.

Sources have now also claimed that the physical altercation was likely a result of Smith’s childhood trauma and his failure to intervene when his father beat his mother.

“Will knows he’s battling to save his career, his reputation and even his Oscar. He’s horrified by the turn of events and is filled with a deep sense of shame,” an insider close to Mark Mason – the co-author of Will Smith’s 2021 memoir – told The Sun.

“He is happy to have some more therapy for his unresolved childhood issues and will do what he can to make good on his momentary lapse in judgment.”

The source went on: “Essentially, though, Will was deeply triggered by Chris’ demeaning comments about his wife’s alopecia. He was taken straight back to childhood, seeing his mum getting abused by his dad.

“This time he didn’t take it sitting down and retaliated as, unfortunately, 50 million people across the globe all saw.”

The fresh insight into the matter comes after the Academy has launched a formal review of Sunday night’s events.
