A waitress got fired from her job after receiving a $4,400 tip from customers but she had the last laugh.
Ryan Brandt was working at the Oven & Tap in Arkansas and she and another server were tasked with serving a huge table of 40 professionals from a company called Witly.
After the service, Witly CEO Grant Wise gave Brandt a tip that left her in tears.
In the video captured by Witly employee Rebecca Soto, Wise can be heard addressing the restaurant while standing next to Brandt.
“Tonight we’re hosting a $100 dinner club,” he said.
Wise turned to Brandt and said: “Everybody at this table has contributed or tipped $100 for you, and for the other waitress, who unfortunately had to go home because she wasn’t feeling well.
“And then we put it out to our social media channels, and we actually had quite a bit more money sent in. So we are tipping you a total of $4,400 for you to split with the other girl that took care of us.”
But Brandt’s happy tears quickly came to an end as she was fired by her bosses.
In an interview with KNWA, she explained that even though Witly’s CEO stated that the $4,400 tip was for her and another server, her bosses were letting her take home only 20 percent.
“I was told that I was going to be giving my cash over to my shift manager, and I would be taking home 20 percent,” she expressed, adding that she never had to split her tips in the past.
After Wise learned about the restaurant’s demands, he requested that the full tip be returned. He then gave the cash to Brandt in person to make sure that she would receive the amount she deserved.
But when Brandt came back to the restaurant, she was fired.
Representatives for Oven & Tap said in a statement to KNWA: “After dining, this large group of guests requested that their gratuity be given to two particular servers. We fully honored their request. Out of respect for our highly valued team members, we do not discuss the details surrounding the termination of an employee.”
But Brandt seemed to have the last laugh as Wise decided to setup a GoFundMe page for her to help her out after getting fired, and it raised more than $18,000.
