Students Set Up A GoFundMe Page For 80-Year-Old School Janitor Who Needs To Continue Working To Pay His Rent


An 80-year-old school janitor can finally retire after a GoFundMe page created for him has raised more than $160,000.

Greyson Thurman, a student at the school where Mr. James works, compiled videos of the hardworking man pushing a cart full of cleaning equipment.

The heartbreaking videos show him struggling to walk while trying to push the cart along the hallway.

Thurman urged people to make donations, hoping that he could raise enough so Mr. James could finally retire.

“Go fund me is in the bio!” he captioned the 13-second video. “My classmates and I hate seeing Mr. James here, no one his age should have to be cleaning our messes up to continue to live.”

The GoFundMe page read: “Hey guys I’m having a fundraiser for our janitor who is struggling to pay his rent. He had to leave retirement to continue to pay his rent that was raised. Just a little will change his life!!”

In just a week, the page raised more than $160,000 from over 4,900 people who want Mr. James to enjoy his retirement.

One TikTok user wrote: “The future looks brighter because of what you guys are doing!” to which Thurman replied: “We did the easy work, all the great people who donated really helped!!”

Another wrote: “It makes me so sad to see him working everyday.”

A third added: “Bless you all for helping him out.”

Someone else said: “So sweet. This guy must’ve been around for my family who went to callisburg. Thank you for doing this!”
