Choosing a name for your baby is one of the most exciting moments of your life and you want to make sure that the moniker does not have any negative meaning behind it.

But one mother has shared how her son hates his name so much that she also no longer wants to use it too.

Posting on Mumsnet, the woman explained that her son is now four and asked fellow parents on whether she should continue to call her son ‘Jake.’

“My son (4) hates his name. He says it’s boring and he has actually cried about it,” she wrote.

“He was named for my cousin and also has the same name as a close family member. He says he wants his name to be his own name and not somebody else’s.”

The mother admitted that even though her son’s name was not bad, she also didn’t like it.

“It wasn’t my first choice and his dad decided on it, his dad is no longer in our lives and every time I say it I’m reminded of his dad,” she added.

The mom also explained that the name ‘Jake’ does not hold any happy memories for her and her son.

“His name just seems to have bad connotations. I haven’t told son my feelings towards his name, I always assure him it’s HIS name and it’s lovely but it’s been over a year since he really started hating his name and it hasn’t changed,” she added.

Mumsnet users were left divided by the situation, with one person suggesting: “Can you change it to a name similar to Jake. Jacob? Jackson?”

Another said: “Call him by the name he likes. See how it goes.”
