A 22-year-old Ukrainian refugee who ran off with a 29-year-old man less than two weeks after he and his wife took her in has insisted that their relationship is ‘real and wonderful’ and that she ‘didn’t steal’ anyone.
Sofiia Karkadym moved in with Tony Garnett, his wife, and their two children in the UK at the start of May.
But the husband fell for their guest and only ten days later, he left his wife for her, saying he wants to spend the rest of his life with Karkadym.
In an Instagram post, Karkadym once again defended her actions and insisted that she did not steal anyone.
She also slammed the press coverage of their story which was “clearly exaggerated and written in such a way as to be as dramatic as possible.”
“The first thing I want to say is that I did not steal anyone from the family. It was his conscious and considered decision, the decision of a 29-year-old man who has the right to fall in love, has the right to be happy and has the right to choose who to be with,” the Ukrainian IT manager said.
“The second thing I want to cover is the concept of the ‘yellow press’. Do you really think that someone can be abducted from a happy family in 10 days?” she went on.
Karkadym also said that she and Garnett are fine as she thanked those who supported her from the very beginning.
“The rest – you will be disappointed in your judgments,” she added.
Garnett’s ex-wife Lorna said she was left heartbroken after her husband left her for their 22-year-old guest.
Speaking to The Sun, the mother said she believes Karkadym “set her sights on Anthony from the start, decided she wanted him and she took him.”
“She didn’t care about the devastation that was left behind. Everything I knew has been turned on its head in the space of two weeks,” she added.
