‘Pitch Perfect’ star Rebel Wilson has defended her decision to go out partying only a week after her baby was born via surrogate.
The 42-year-old actress said just because she became a mother does not mean she can no longer enjoy herself.
It was in November last year when she welcomed her daughter Royce Lillian with partner Ramona Arguma.
But the couple immediately sparked controversy when they were seen at celebrity parties only a week after their child was born: one for Paris Hilton’s wedding anniversary and the other for Leonardo DiCaprio’s birthday party.
Rebel said she did not like being ‘mom-shamed’ and doesn’t believe new fathers also experience the same level of criticism.
The actress told her friends Laura Bryne and Brittany Hockley on the Life Uncut podcast: “It was only a week until I got mum-shamed.”
She continued: “I was shocked at the criticism because Chris Hemsworth goes to the gym, and people aren’t yelling, “Where’s your kids?” But why do they do it to every woman?”
She also admitted that she had second thoughts about going out so soon after her baby was born but her nanny insisted that she could go.
“It’s a little bit [of] work in a way. Like, I’m talking to directors or talking to other actors that might be useful to collaborate with… and then we were basically home by midnight,” the Bridesmaids star went on.
Rebel also said that women should not be shaming other women for how they parent their kids.
“Just because you become a mother, doesn’t mean that you lose your identity as a person. It doesn’t mean you can’t go out with friends or you can’t go on a holiday. It doesn’t mean you can’t have a career,” she continued.
“People will say I’m in a privileged position, which I am, but I think it’s so outdated. Why is it women shaming other women? It always is.”
