A woman has hit out at cruel trolls who called her a ‘catfish’ for applying makeup to transform her appearance.
18-year-old Charlotte Rough shares her impressive makeup videos on TikTok, and while most of the comments are positive, some remarks left by online trolls criticize her appearance before applying beauty products.
The teen told The Mirror: “I receive a lot of criticism and hate on those types of videos. I get called a ‘catfish’ mostly, which can be very harmful as it’s hinting that I can never look as good as I do with makeup on.”
Charlotte, who shares TikTok videos under the username @charlotterough, continued: “I also experience a lot of ‘you only look good because you have 5000 pounds of makeup on’ comments, which are just ridiculous!”
The teen said she has learned to not let hurtful remarks get to her but it wasn’t easy.
“At the start of the viral videos, it most definitely had a huge toll on my mental health. I was receiving death threats and thousands of comments that were calling me ‘ugly’ and ‘fat’. I have now learned to ignore the comments, and there is more love than hate!”
Charlotte has more than 74,000 followers on TikTok. Despite the negative attention from vicious trolls, the enjoys the community she has built online.
Speaking about her success on the social media platform, the teen said: “Honestly, I’m over the moon! Social media has always been something I’ve enjoyed.
“I’ve been watching other makeup artists on the app ‘blow up’ and it was always so intriguing to me, and it’s insane as I’m now one of those people to have multiple videos do extremely well!”
