‘I’m Being Asked To Pay $5,000 To Attend My Friend’s Dream Wedding But When I CONFRONTED The Bride, She Threatened Me’

A woman has shared her frustration after being asked to pay at least $5,000 to attend her friend’s dream wedding.

The guest claimed that they were expected to pay for their own flights, hotel, transport to and from the venue, as well as food.

In addition, their invite did not come with a plus one, so she couldn’t bring her partner.

When the guest expressed her complaints to the bride-to-be, she was told that $5,000 was ‘very affordable.’

Taking to Reddit, she said: “I was recently invited to a destination wedding at a location where the rich and famous like to go. The location is a 10-hour flight away, and with that much travel to the location, it would essentially be a vacation.

“I did not receive a plus one to the wedding. I understand that not everyone gets a plus one, and maybe that would be okay for a local wedding and if they didn’t know the significant other. They personally know my partner, and we’ve been together for almost a decade, and they did not invite them.”

The woman also explained that she doesn’t know anyone else invited to the wedding. “Why would I want to travel to this destination by myself?” she asked.

“When I told the bride I wasn’t likely to attend due to the cost and was sorry and wished them a good time, she basically said, ‘Well, you have been abroad before, so you can afford this. It is affordable. You better come to my wedding.’

“It was almost threatening to me and [then she] started asking weird questions about my financial situation.”

The woman has decided not to go to the wedding despite the bride’s remarks.

People on Reddit were also shocked by the wedding’s price tag, with one person commenting: “You could literally throw a basic wedding for that much money. An invitation is not a summons. And not inviting a partner of 10 years is rude. Send your regrets, it will be fine.”

Another wrote: “You will certainly not be the only person declining for financial reasons. She’s in for a reality check.”
