A woman has shared how she was left feeling hurt after her parents completely forgot her birthday.

Sharing her story on Babycenter, she explained that her birthday is close to Christmas and New Year and she was left gutted when her parents admitted that they had to rush out to get her a present because they had forgotten about her big day.

“One of my parents told me they had forgotten about my birthday and had to run out the day before to pick up something,” she wrote.

The woman continued: “The gift itself is nice and if they hadn’t expressed this, I would have been happy with it.

“I feel a bit bratty but am I being unreasonable to feel hurt by this? My children are young so I’m not likely to forget their birthday. Struggling to imagine doing it in the future. My birthday is close to Christmas and New Year so I can logically understand it being overlooked, but emotionally I’m feeling hurt and let down.”

Babycenter users were quick to reassure the woman that her feelings were ‘valid.’

“It’s very unlikely that a present and involved parent to forget about their kids’ birthday but it can also happen. We are all human, we make mistakes. You are not being unreasonable. Your feelings are valid but I wouldn’t give it much thought. It happens. They were probably mortified they forgot,” one person commented.

“They didn’t forget your birthday, they lost track of time and got a present last minute – but still before your birthday,” another added.
