Sharing her story on Reddit, the mother-to-be explained that her mother-in-law was supposed to stay with them for six months to help them with the baby’s arrival.

Only days into her stay, the MIL started cleaning up the house and started removing items she thought was ‘dangerous.’

“I like collecting things from garage sales and such. Things like little sculptures and books and baskets, stuff a lot of people would consider utter junk,” the pregnant woman explained.

She admitted that their house was full of items but it was tidy.

“My mother-in-law, on the other hand, likes everything surgically clean. Yesterday I came home from work to find the house like a war zone, she went through my cabinets and cleared out everything she considered junk, and had apparently made several trips to Goodwill before I got home.”

This left the pregnant woman furious and asked her MIL why she would do this.

Her mother-in-law then explained that the house to be clean for the baby, adding that it would be ‘dangerous’ for the child to have a cluttered home.

“Then she took the next huge bag of stuff and tried to walk out the door. I kind of lost it, and I told her she could get out right now,” she continued.

The MIL was so shocked and said she didn’t have a place to go as it was already late. The pregnant woman then called a taxi and booked her a hotel room.

Her husband returned home and accused his wife of being ‘disrespectful’ and ‘ungrateful’ towards his mother. She now wonders if she was the one in the wrong.

One Reddit user said: “Your mother-in-law, though well-meaning, needs to respect your boundaries. This is how she acts with your things. How will she behave around a newborn? Will she uphold your rules about your baby? Will she think her ways are better and maybe endanger your baby? She wasn’t just helping. She was moving into your territory and claiming it as her own.”
