When it comes to weddings, couples try to make sure that everything goes as planned but one bride was left furious after their special day was ruined by the groom’s mother.
Posting on Reddit, the woman explained that her mother-in-law refused to speak to them and was ‘sulking’ during the ceremony.
“My partner and I got married last Saturday and his mum ended up making him cry on his wedding day because of her sulking, not speaking to us, and general demeanor on the day,” she wrote.
The woman revealed that her husband was visibly upset that it ruined their wedding.
She said that they were happy and excited when they arrived for their wedding day but her mother-in-law refused to make any eye contact.
“She’s a witness who comes up and scribbles a signature and says ‘congratulations’ In a huff sits down again. My mum is stood there shocked whilst she signed the other signature. No photos were taken of this due to how quick she was to get it done,” she continued.
After the wedding ceremony, her mother-in-law sat sulking in the garden and her son didn’t even know what was going on.
When they asked her if she was okay, her mother-in-law just said she was fine.
“The meal was the most uncomfortable thing… she walked around the room until she had to sit down on the top table with us at the last minute,” she continued.
“(Mother-in-law) makes a comment about the food ‘Oh guess I’ll be veggie as it won’t be halal’ despite us making sure all the food was halal and saying in advance.. asking why she is sitting next to the groom and not his dad. Not speaking to my parents, not smiling in any photos..”
The woman concluded her post by saying she didn’t know if she could ever ‘forgive’ her mother-in-law for how she made them feel during their wedding.
One Reddit user commented: “There’s nothing a narcissist likes better than to ruin a special day. It’s their favorite thing. I’m sorry it ruined your day.”
Another said: “She will repeat this or similar behavior any time she feels like she’s not getting enough attention. Your husband has been groomed to not ‘rock the boat’. You may or may not ever get him to understand this.”
