A woman has shared how her mother-in-law broke down in tears after she refused to let her pick a name for her baby girl.
One of the most exciting moments during pregnancy is picking a name for your little one but one mom was left frustrated as her mother-in-law wanted to choose the moniker for her grandchild.
The 26-year-old explained that when they found out that they were expecting a baby girl, her husband’s family were ‘over the moon’ because they haven’t had a girl for three generations.
Because of that, her mother-in-law kept on pestering her about her baby’s name, only referred to as ‘G.’
Writing on Reddit, the woman said that her mother-in-law has loved the name ‘G’ since she was a child as it was the name of her late aunt.
“Here’s the problem,” the woman wrote. “G was the name of my middle and high school bully. I hate the name. Thinking about naming my child this name makes me feel physically ill. To be reminded of someone so horrible when I look at my baby would be way too difficult for me to ever move past.”
Even though her husband also likes the name, he tried to talk to his mom to let it go but she cried and said that it was her ‘dream’ to name a baby girl ‘G.’
The mother-in-law also said that if her daughter-in-law won’t allow her, she ‘doesn’t know if she will ever forgive her.’
Reddit users were shocked by the mother-in-law’s behavior, with one person writing: “Your mother-in-law does not get to name your baby. She had her babies and now it is your turn. Also, you don’t need to give anyone a reason for not wanting to use the name she wants.”
