‘My Mother-In-Law Got Mad At Me After She Found Out That I Donated The Gifts She Bought For My Children But Am I The One In The Wrong Here?’

A mother has shared how her mother-in-law got furiously angry at her after finding out that she donated most of the gifts she bought for her kids.

She admitted that she was left with no choice but to donate some of the toys as they needed more space in the house.

Posting on Reddit, the mom explained that her mother-in-law enjoyed going ‘overboard’ with presents but her children only play half of them.

“I like to declutter the kids’ toys just to make things easier,” the woman wrote. “The in-laws don’t like this at all and will buy extra presents to make up for it. They don’t even play with half of them and three months later we end up donating them anyway.

“Any time we’ve had a baby they buy expensive equipment and say ‘Oh just use it, It’ll help with (whatever explanation they have).”

The mom also explained that she donates the toys to other kids who would also enjoy them instead of throwing them away but her mother-in-law didn’t like the idea.

The frustrated mom went on: “I told them they have been told every year our limit and not buy something we already have. So they have decided our kids don’t deserve presents from them then. I’ve told her that’s their choice, not mine.”

Reddit users were quick to share their thoughts on the matter, with one person saying: “I’ve managed to steer them toward more art and science stuff rather than just plastic toys that pile up, but it took a few years.”

Another said: “My MIL and stepmom also go way overboard, so I feel you.”

A third suggested: “Ask them to contribute to a savings account, college fund, bonds, anything is better than gifts you don’t need or want.”
