Posting on Reddit, the 28-year-old man explained that his older brother, 31, and his wife, 24, just welcomed a baby boy.

“My dad is a senior and my brother is a junior, so there were high expectations that he would be named the third of their names in line,” the poster wrote.

He said that the name has a nickname similar to Trey’ to indicate the third title but the couple had second thoughts during their stay in hospital.

“They even waited the two days before they were discharged to actually put his name on the birth certificate and told no one until an hour beforehand. They chose ‘Trey’ as the given name and then the middle name as ‘Gunner’ (different, but adjacent actual name). The name isn’t important, but it’s relevant to the story,” the Reddit user continued.

He said that the name chosen by the couple was never discussed and that it ‘sprung when he was 1.5 days old and minutes.’

The couple has received negative remarks from the family and the grandmother has ‘spiraled’ and refuses to see the baby.

“She told my dad and I that she wasn’t going over to see the three of them tonight – even though tonight is the first night the baby was taken home. She also said she wouldn’t cook a store-bought casserole we bought for them to eat,” the post went on.

The grandmother, who was looking after her son’s dog, refuses to help her son and grandson and even sent the pooch back to the couple to give them more work.

One Reddit user commented: “I would probably push carefully on the fact (to her) that her actions are only going to hurt herself. That when everyone looks back, they won’t feel bad about naming their child what THEY WANTED. But everyone will remember her actions and behavior.”

Another wrote: “Horrible! What makes people think they should have a say in naming a child that they didn’t create?! Entitlement and selfishness. Your mom should be ashamed.”
