Invented in the Us in 1941, the mouthwatering treat has become known for its crunchy shell exterior and velvety smooth chocolatey interior.

Most people thought the ‘m’ initials was just inspired by the ‘mmm’ sounds, but it actually came from the names of the two founders – Bruce Murrie and Forrest E. Mars Sr.

It was in the 1930s when Forrest Mars – who started Mars Inc. – thought of the brilliant idea for M&M’s after noticing people eating chocolate buttons with a hard shell to prevent their treats from melting.

He then worked with Bruce Murrie – the son of Hershey’s Chocolate’s president – to develop the iconic treat.
