JUST IN: Michael J. Fox, 61, Opens Up About Living With Parkinson’s And Says He Doesn’t Have Time To Feel Sorry For Himself


Michael J Fox has shared more details about living with Parkinson’s disease and said that even though it ‘sucks,’ he doesn’t have time for pity.

“I can feel sorry for myself,” the actor said, “but I don’t have time for that.”

The 61-year-old rose to fame in the 80s after he played Marty McFly in Back to the Future. His character traveled into the past to make sure that his parents would fall in love.

It was in 1991 when Michael was diagnosed with Parkinson’s but he kept his condition a secret for several years.

After telling the public about his condition, he set up the Michael J. Fox Foundation and has worked hard to campaign for increased research on the disease.

The actor has recently appeared in a documentary titled Still: A Michael J. Fox Movie where he also spoke about living with the disease.

When asked about how he ‘mobilized’ people to care about Parkinson’s the actor said as per PEOPLE: “I didn’t have a choice. This is it.

“I have to give everything I have, and it’s not lip service. I show up and do the best I can. Pity is a benign form of abuse. I can feel sorry for myself, but I don’t have time for that.

“There is stuff to be learned from this, so let’s do that and move on.”

He also explained that he made a documentary as he wanted to show gratitude to his fans who have supported him throughout his journey.

“My fans have basically given me my life,” Fox expressed. “I wanted to give these people who have done so much for me my time and gratitude. It was great for me to hear from all of you.”

He added: “Parkinson’s sucks, but it’s a great life, so thank you for it. I have no regrets.”
