The Duke and Duchess of Sussex wanted to get better seats during the Platinum Jubilee celebrations but their wishes were rejected by the Queen, a royal author has claimed.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle flew to the UK for the celebrations but made only one public appearance at the Thanksgiving service at St. Paul’s Cathedral.

The couple arrived at the church alongside other non-working royals including Princess Eugenie, Princess Beatrice, and their husband.

Harry and Meghan walked down the cathedral’s long nave to take their allocated seats next to Eugenie and her husband Jack Brooksbank who stood up along with Beatrice and Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi to let the Sussexes reach their spots.

Their seats were far from Prince Charles and Camilla, and Prince William and Kate.

But author Tom Bower said that Harry and Meghan were not happy about their seats in the cathedral, claiming that the couple tried to sit closer to senior members of the Royal Family.

Speaking on the Mirror’s Pod Save the Queen podcast, the author said: “I was told, unfortunately too late for the book, they were meant to turn up at Wellington Barracks to get on the coach which was set up for the minor royals to go to St Paul’s for the Jubilee service.

“They arrived deliberately late so the bus had gone and they could make a grand entrance from a car so they could be seen on the steps, which Netflix obviously needed.

“And then as they walked down the aisle, they get to the seats in the row they are assigned and I’m told they then asked six other people sitting this side of the aisle could they move down so they could sit on the aisle itself.”

According to Mr. Bower, the usher told the Sussexes that they couldn’t, adding “you’re sitting seats eight or nine.”

When the Duke of Sussex asked why, the usher said ‘that’s what your grandmother ordered,’ I’m told that from a military man,” Mr. Bower added.
