Meghan Markle Said ‘I Can’t Believe I’m NOT Getting PAID For This’ During Royal Visit To Australia In 2018, New Book Claims


The Duchess of Sussex complained about not getting paid during a royal visit to Australia in 2018, a royal author has claimed in a new book.

According to reports, Prince Harry and Meghan spent 16 days traveling around Australia, New Zealand, Tonga and Fiji on their first royal tour.

Huge crowds arrived to see the popular couple as visited the countries, attending 76 royal engagements.

But according to Valentine Low, a royal correspondent of The Times, the Duchess ‘enjoyed the attention’ she received but did not completely understand the main point of royal tours.

In his book ‘Courtiers: The Hidden Power Behind the Crown,’ Mr. Low said that Meghan showed a ‘refreshingly informal approach to royal visits’ which was a hit with Australians.

He also said that the former actress was seen as ‘an inspirational role model’ during royal walkabouts.

“When she turned up at the home of a farming family, she brought some banana bread that she had baked herself,” the book said.

“When the couple visited a school to see the work of a program to improve the educational outcomes of young Aboriginals, she was fêted as an inspirational role model.”

But in an excerpt posted by The Times, Mr. Low wrote the behind the scenes of the royal tour.

“Although she enjoyed the attention, Meghan failed to understand the point of all those walkabouts, shaking hands with countless strangers,” the book reads.

The book also claimed that members of staff heard Meghan saying: “I can’t believe I’m not getting paid for this.”

‘Courtiers’ also quoted a member of the royal tour party who said the Duchess of Sussex wanted to “bring in her people rather than turn to the traditional Buckingham Palace people.”

A source also claimed that the Duchess was left ‘baffled by the enthusiasm’ of royal fans after seeing them waiting outside the Sydney Opera House.

According to the insider, Meghan asked the team: “What are they all doing there? It’s silly.”
