The Duchess of Sussex aims to squash allegations she lied during their bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey last year.
It was previously reported that Meghan Markle’s half-sister Samantha is suing her for saying that she grew up as an only child, claiming that it wasn’t the former actress’ true life story.
But the mother-of-two just won’t back down without a fight!
In their latest filings, Meghan’s lawyers said: “This perception is entirely unfalsifiable. It is hard to imagine a more personal and subjective feeling than how one views their own childhood.”
“Moreover, Plaintiff’s opposition completely ignores the context of the statement where Ms Winfrey asked Meghan about her relationship with (Samantha),” the docs said, according to Radar.
“Meghan’s response to that question was obviously not meant to be a statement of objective fact that she had no genetic siblings or half-siblings.”
During the bombshell interview with Oprah in March 2021, Meghan explained: “I grew up as an only child, which everyone who grew up around me knows, and I wished I had siblings. I would have loved to have had siblings.”
She also explained that she had not seen her half-sister in almost 20 years.
“(She) changed her last name back to Markle in her early 50s … only when I started dating Harry. So, I think that says enough,” the Suits star went on.
Aside from those claims, Samantha also reacted to the book Finding Freedom, written by the Duchess of Sussex’s friend Omid Scobie.
The claims were brushed off by Meghan’s lawyers, who stated: “Meghan did not make the statements; she cannot be liable for them. It is that simple.”
They previously described the lawsuit as “baseless and absurd” and vowed to give it “the minimum attention necessary.”
