The Duchess of Sussex has been slammed after she released a new podcast only hours before the 25th death anniversary of Princess Diana.
Top Australian entertainment reporter Peter Ford could not hide his frustration, telling The Morning Show: “This anniversary wasn’t exactly a surprise. We knew it was coming.”
Meghan Markle’s second installment of Archtypes podcast saw the mother-of-two complain about ‘exclusion’ growing up as a biracial woman.
Speaking with co-hosts Kylie Gillies and Larry Emdur, Ford went on: “So why would you schedule that interview for yesterday? Why not put the podcast off for a week. You know, get out of the news cycle.”
The journalist later took to Twitter and reposted the segment.
“On the actual 25th anniversary of Princess Diana’s death, guess who inserts herself into the news cycle?” he added.
He also suggested the Duchess of Sussex could have honored the late Princess of Wales instead of releasing another bombshell interview.
“A podcast that drops today that talks about Diana’s legacy and causes she supported. Would actually get massive coverage had she done it,” Ford wrote on Twitter.
“Or alternately she has the sway to tell Spotify to not release it for 24 hours. Surely this must cross Harry’s mind?”
Princess Diana tragically died in a car crash on August 31, 1997, at the age of 36. Her sons Prince William and Prince Harry were aged 15 and 12 at that time.
The royal brothers have previously marked anniversaries together but a royal source revealed to The Mirror that the Duke of Cambridge is ‘not planning’ to make a public statement this year.
Meghan’s latest podcast titled ‘The Duality of Diva’ features an interview with Mariah Carey.
In the interview, the duchess told the singer she was only treated like a ‘black woman’ for the first time when she started dating Harry.
