A grandfather just got the shock of his life when he discovered that he’s been spelling his name wrong for six decades.
Allan Grainger’s family burst out laughing after checking his birth certificate and found out that he is actually named ‘Alan.’
The 61-year-old was left shocked as he and his parents have been spelling his name with two ‘L’s.
All of Allan’s official documents, including his driving license and wedding certificate, all had ‘Allan’ written on them.
To make things worse, he has two tattoos of the name ‘Allan’ on his body, one on his arm and one across his hand.
The father-of-two now believes that the person filling out the information on his birth certificate must’ve made a mistake.
“I couldn’t believe it. I’ve been spelling my name like that all my life,” Allan said.
“When my daughter said that I thought she was winding me up. I was dumbfounded and just couldn’t believe it.
“I think it was a mistake on the birth certificate because my mom wouldn’t let me go through school spelling my name like that.
“I’ve got two tattoos with my name on it, one on my arm and one on my hand.”
Allan said that he won’t change his name now as there wouldn’t be any difference.
His daughter, Mya Grainger, shared a video on TikTok showing the birth certificate before panning to her father’s face who appeared to be bewildered.
“He’s been spelling his name wrong his whole life,” the 22-year-old said.
Her pos has gained more than 14,000 views and hundreds of comments from TikTokers who also shared their own experiences.
One internet user shared: “Birthday twin. My dad spells his name different to his birth certificate too, he spells it Stephan not Stephen.”
Another wrote: “My nan only found out her name was actually Jean not Margaret when she needed her birth certificate to get married.”
