‘My Boyfriend Tried To Propose To Me Using An Engagement Ring He Bought For His EX!’

A woman recalled the moment she rejected her boyfriend when he tried proposing to her using the engagement ring he bought for his ex.

According to the Reddit poster in question, her partner chose to keep the engagement ring he previously bought for his ex even years after breaking up with the woman.

While at one point the man almost set on selling the piece of jewelry, he later decided on keeping it despite the history it holds.

“He had been planning to propose for a while and he showed me this ring. It is pretty and I thought it was ok that we use it. Then later when I asked him where he got it from, he sheepishly told me,” the woman explained.

“I told him not to propose with it and actually don’t know if I want to be engaged at all right now, because he didn’t tell me right from the start where this ring came from and of course he’s being cheap.”

After asking the internet for advice on handling the matter, the woman quickly received loads of support with people telling her she was right to put off the engagement and feel upset after her boyfriend’s actions.

The majority of readers also suggested the man was out of hand for not only keeping the ring but also suggesting they reuse it.

“That ring was chosen for his ex, not for you. He can easily trade up at the jewelry store or sell it to get something special for you,” someone wrote.

“Engagement rings are incredibly intimate items. Single use almost, as the item is intended to be worn by only one person (chosen by the buyer). Rings of this nature aren’t reusable unless they’re family heirlooms,” another said.
