The bizarre legal dispute takes place in Spain where a businessman was ordered to pay his ex-wife, Ivana Moral, 25 years’ worth of minimum wage for decades of unpaid domestic labor. The man was also ordered to pay his ex a pension equivalent amounting to around $600 per month.

Ruling in the housewife’s favor was a female judge, Laura Ruiz Alaminos, who took into account the country’s minimum wage and the years of Moral’s service while presiding the case at a Velez-Malaga court.

According to the ruling, Ivana has been granted the massive payout after 25 years of looking after her family and household as a stay-at-home wife and “essentially working in the home.”

“Clearly this was a case of abuse to be completely excluded financially (by my ex-husband) with nothing left after my marriage ended, so me and my daughters were left with nothing after all these years of putting all my time, energy and love in the family,” Ivana said as she complained about being left with nothing following her bitter divorce due to the prenup she signed before tying the knot.point 338 | 1

“I was supporting my husband in his work and in the family as a mother and a father. I was never allowed access to his financial affairs; everything was in his name.”

Ivana added that she wanted to speak out about her case to make other women aware of what they are “entitled” to should their marriages break down.

She also explained that the court’s ruling has made her “very happy” and that the amount her ex-husband has to pay her is “very well deserved.”
