A woman asked for advice after her otherwise pleasant date turned into something she never expected would happen to her.
The lady in question took to Mumsnet to open up about her bizarre dinner at a local bar during which her date ate food from a stranger’s plate rather than order a meal of his own.
Shocked by the man’s actions, the woman asked him why he was eating the leftovers only for the man to respond by claiming he hates seeing good food get wasted.
The man allegedly also turned down the woman’s offer to buy him lunch because the meal left behind by another party was barely touched.
“I asked him what he wanted to eat for lunch, and he said he would just eat some leftover toast and sausages from the uncleared table. I thought he was joking and laughed. But he actually meant it,” she wrote.
“He took two pieces of leftover, cold toast and some sausages and proceeded to eat them, with no plate. I said I would buy him lunch and he didn’t need to eat leftovers! He said he couldn’t stand wasted food.
“I ordered my own lunch and ate it, alone, as he had already gobbled up the leftovers from the people who had left.”
Asking the internet for advice, the woman continued: “Would this put you off someone? Or should I more be accommodating?! In all honesty, it made me feel very uncomfortable and I found it very unattractive. How would this make you feel, can I ask?”
While plenty of people urged the woman to run for the hills and never go out with the “weird” man again, some actually took his side and said he might have acted this way because he was homeless or very poor in the past.
“Yes it would massively put me off. I can’t believe someone would do that, that’s disgusting,” someone said.
“I understand not wanting to waste food but he literally are a strangers’ leftovers while letting you eat on your own. A huge red flag,” another explained.
A third argued: “I kinda sympathize with him because I hate leftovers.. I hate waste. When you see barely touched plates of food that are just going to be thrown away…
“However, I’ve never actually done this. On a hygiene level it’s a bit dubious. I think it’s reasonable to be a bit put off by it. If he is a lovely guy and this is the only issue I might overlook it.”
