‘I’m Thinking About Canceling My Wedding After My Fiancé Banned All Meat From The Event’

An upset young woman sought advice on the internet after her husband-to-be banned all meat from their fast-approaching wedding.

The lady in question wrote an open letter to author and columnist Jane Green in which she explained that she and her vegan husband got into a huge fight while organizing their big day.

As she explained, her partner’s veganism never truly got in the way of their relationship despite her being a huge meat lover who enjoys burgers and steaks regularly.

And though the partner never complained about this, he made a firm stance as he decided to ban all meat from their wedding without consulting his fiancée first.

“He told me that he wouldn’t feel comfortable serving any meat at the reception. A lot of his family is vegan and he said that they’d be offended to even be around meat,” the woman wrote.

“It’s been a bone of contention for months now – to the point where we’ve actually gotten into screaming matches in front of the caterer because he was mad that I’d even requested to sample a meat dish.”

While the woman says her partner allows meat at home, she said he wasn’t willing to back down when it came to banning meat from their wedding – a move that has sprouted doubts about marriage in the bride’s mind.

“I know my friends and family are going to be miserable at the idea of attending a vegan dinner – but when I raised that, he made it seem like his family is the only one that matters,” she added while asking if it was absurd to call off the marriage because of the disagreement.

“The stubborn way that he’s dealt with this whole thing is giving me really cold feet – I’ve seen another side to him during this whole process that I didn’t realize existed before, and I’m terrified that I’ve made a huge mistake and agreed to marry the wrong guy.”

In response to the woman’s concerns, Green said the issue was not just in meat but rather in the man’s behavior. While insisting that “marriage is nothing if not compromise,” the author said the way to marital happiness is to find the middle ground.

“It’s not that your fiancé is vegan that is the problem, but that he is not willing to consider a compromise for your wedding where presumably half the guests will be carnivores,” she explained.

Telling the woman to be grateful for discovering her partner’s ugly side before saying yes to him at the altar were also readers who slammed the man for thinking only about his family.
