A private investigator hired by the family of missing Madeleine McCann has spoken out after a young woman claimed that she is the missing British girl.
Julia Wendell from Poland became a social media sensation after creating an Instagram account and said that she was wondering if she was Madeleine after hearing a comment from her grandmother.
She recently claims that the McCanns have approached her to take a DNA test and said that she was set to take it to prove whether she’s their daughter or not.
Julia, 21, believes that her age could be wrong as Maddie would now be 19.
But the family’s private investigator, Francisco Marco, has spoken out over the claims.
Speaking to Spanish newspaper El Independiente, he said: “Without knowing the details in depth, it doesn’t add up to me. I don’t think it’s her.”
Julia also compared her pictures to those of Madeleine’s as ‘evidence’ that they are actually the same person.
Her Instagram bio says: “I think I can be Madeleine. I need DNA test. Police investigators from UK and Poland try to ignore me. I will tell my story in posts here. Help me.”
Julia said she doesn’t remember being taken away and has no memories of most details of her childhood.
“I don’t remember being taken away. I mean, I don’t remember almost my entire childhood,” she expressed.
“I talked with someone from Madeleine’s family and I will have a possibility to talk with Madeleine’s parents tomorrow and DNA test will be done soon,” she wrote on her Instagram story.
She also said in a post that she talked to Madeleine’s cousin, who told her that she could ‘have a possibility’ to talk to Maddie’s parents to arrange a DNA test.
Her update came after a source close to the McCann family said to the Daily Star Sunday that they are ‘willing to look at all leads.’
“The family are taking no chances, they are willing to look at all leads. It is important they look at all of the factors, the girl does look similar. There’s no disputing that,” the source said.
“If what she says is true, there is every chance it could be her. It all adds up.”
