The King has included the Duke and Duchess of Sussex in the official Buckingham Palace souvenir program photo that will accompany the Coronation.

The image was shot by royal photographer Chris Jackson in 2018 to mark the monarch’s 70th birthday.

It was taken in the gardens at Clarence House and shows His Majesty with Prince George sitting on his lap, Camilla cuddling Princess Charlotte, and the now-Princess of Wales holding their youngest child, Prince Louis.

The Archbishop of Canterbury said that King Charles will be anointed in full knowledge of his ‘difficult’ task as monarch as well as in recognition of how he ‘shares in our human frailties and vulnerabilities.’

Writing in the official coronation souvenir program, Archbishop Justin Welby said the monarch will swap his ‘robes of status and honor’ for a simple white shirt for the private anointing.

He also said that the historic moment will be one of ‘magnificence and pomp’ but also in the midst of the occasion one of ‘stillness and simplicity’ when the monarch is anointed with holy oil in private under a canopy.

The anointing of the King is the only part of the coronation ceremony that the public will not see as it will be a ‘’private moment between a new King and the King of Kings,” said the Archbishop.

“’In the full knowledge that even as a King, he is one of the people and that even if he has a particular role to fulfill, he shares in our human frailties and vulnerabilities,” he added.

Elizabeth II was also anointed in private, wearing a plain pleated linen dress over her coronation gown.
