Kevin Costner’s Hollywood lawyer has slammed his ex-wife Christine Baumgartner after she demanded that he cover her $885,000 legal fee bill.
Attorney Laura Wesser criticized Baumgartner over her request for the Oscar-winning star to pay her in legal fees.
Wasser immediately declared that the demand is ‘nothing short of outrageous,’ arguing that the ex-wife’s lawyers would need to accumulate 1,106 billable hours to justify the staggering amount.
Wasser also said that the court had deemed the pair’s prenuptial agreement enforceable.
In July, a judge enforced a provision of the prenup that mandated the mother to vacate their family home 30 days since the date of filing of divorce.
However, Baumgartner said that she “will move in due course, but this is a major undertaking and can only be accomplished with careful planning.”
According to Costner’s lawyer, the actor has contributed $300,000 toward his ex-wife’s legal expenses. She then allegedly withdrew more than $100,000 from Costner’s accounts for her legal proceedings.
It was on May 1 when Baumgartner had filed for divorce over irreconcilable differences with the Oscar-winning actor.
Court documents showed that she listed April 11 as the date of their separation.
The two were married for more than 18 years and were blessed with two sons: Cayden, 15, and Hayes, 14, and a daughter named Grace.
In a huge victory for Costner, a judge ordered him to pay $63,209 per month in child support instead of $248,000 that Baumgartner wanted to receive.
“My biggest concern is that the court orders me to pay child support that is above the needs of my children and for the needs of Christine,” Costner had argued in Santa Barbara court.
