Johnny Depp’s team has finally responded to rumors that he is dating ‘Wednesday’ star Jenna Ortega.
Speculations about the two stars being romantically involved started after the celebrity gossip Instagram account Deuxmoi suggested the idea that Depp and Ortega had been spotted together.
While some said it was just a meet-up for Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice sequel, others were quick to come up with different conclusions.
The Pirates of the Caribbean star’s reps were quick to issue a statement to shut down the speculation.
“Mr. Depp has no personal or professional relationship with Ms. Ortega whatsoever,” they stated.
“He has never met her or spoken to her. He is not involved in any project with her, nor does he intend to be. He is appalled by these baseless and malicious rumors that are intended to harm his reputation and career.”
This came after Ortega took to Instagram and declared: “This is so ridiculous I can’t even laugh,” adding that she had “never met or worked with Johnny Depp in my life.”
Ortega added: “Please stop spreading lies and leave us alone.”
The rumors came after the actress previously opened up about the dark side of being famous.
In a recent interview that was part of Variety’s Actors-on-Actors series, she said: “Social media, what it does to anyone our age, it’s such a comparing game. It influences bandwagon mentality. It’s very manipulative.”
Ortega then burst into tears and went on: “They see your vulnerability and twist it in a way that you don’t always expect.”
Both Depp and Ortega have finally addressed the rumors and made it clear that they are not dating.
