Jenna Ortega has finally addressed the rumors that she and Johnny Depp are dating.
The actress’s role in Wednesday has definitely pushed her into stardom but with fame comes gossips, and speculations about Ortega dating the Pirates of the Caribbean star are suddenly circulating on social media.
The rumors came after a recent report from DeuxMoi, an Instagram account that publishes celebrity gossip, hinting at a possible collaboration on Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice 2.
Fans and media outlets were quick to dissect all details and rumors emerged that Ortega was dating Depp.
The Scream actress immediately addressed the rumors and slammed it as ‘ridiculous.’
Taking to Instagram, she said: “This is so ridiculous I can’t even laugh. I have never met or worked with Johnny Depp in my life. Please stop spreading lies and leave us alone.”
Depp’s rep also released a statement and denied any romantic connection between the stars.
“Mr. Depp has no personal or professional relationship with Ms. Ortega whatsoever,” his rep explained. “He has never met her or spoken to her. He is not involved in any project with her, nor does he intend to be. He is appalled by these baseless and malicious rumors that are intended to harm his reputation and career.”
Their statements finally put an end to the speculations surrounding the actors.
In a previous interview with Variety, Ortega discussed the toxicity of social media.
“When I was younger, they would take us to media training – Disney 101 or something like that – where they would say, ‘You’re going to post three times a day,’” she expressed.
“’This is how you build followers, engage, promote our show,’ You could go into an audition or meeting, and it was ‘How many followers do you have?’”
Ortega described it as a comparing game that ‘influences bandwagon mentality.’
“After the show, I’m really nervous to post or even say anything on there or even be myself,” she admitted.
The actress said in tears: “They see your vulnerability and twist it in a way that you don’t always expect. It’s so strange.”
