Even though the 41-year-old singer just made history as the artist with the most Grammy awards, her loss to the former member of One Direction has been seen as a major upset.

Beyonce has lost three times before. In 2010, I Am… Sasha Fierce lost to Fearless by Taylor Swift.

In 2015, her self-titled Beyonce album lost to Beck’s Morning Phase, and in 2017, Adele’s 25 won against Lemonade.

Luckily, Beyonce’s rapper husband Jay-Z, 53, was there to support her at all times.

Responding to his wife losing Album of the Year to Harry Styles, the 99 Problems hitmaker explained why he believed Beyonce was deserving of the award.

The rapper also discussed Beyonce’s previous losses and said people were just not ready for them yet.

“Even with Bey, I felt like they missed the moment. Not just Lemonade; (also) when Beck won over her (for Album of the Year at the 2015 show). I was like, ‘Oh, y’all missed it,’” he expressed.

“For the culture, I love this s**t so much I want them to get it right. I want to experience those moments when it’s the culmination of when Michael popped off,” he said.

“That moment left an indelible mark on us forever. Or when Lauryn Hill came through and it was Miseducation and she won those joints [five Grammy Awards in 1999]. We knew that was her moment. We wanted to witness that moment and celebrate her. She made something that’s going to stand the test of time.”
