People may think that his children are guaranteed a very comfortable life but the Vanguard star has admitted that he won’t give them anything, even a dollar.

In his 2015 autobiography titled Never Grow Up, the actor explained that he always wanted his son, Jaycee Chan, to work for his own success.

The Karate Kid star said that when Jaycee was growing up, he was careless with available resources like electricity.

He also said that his son would always forget to turn off the electrical appliances in his room.

“Every night, I would see his light on. I went to see what he is up to, but the place was empty,” he wrote in his book.

When Chan asked his son to turn the lights and appliances off when he’s not using it, his son said the light made him feel alive.

That’s when Chan called an electrician to split the wiring of the house and told Jaycee: “From now on, you can pay your own electric bill.”

There was also a time when he and his son were booked onto a flight, with the actor sitting in first class while Jaycee was sitting in economy.

He told him: “You have no money now, so you sit here.” However, Jaycee was upgraded to first class after a crew upgraded him.

“You have me as a dad, but other people don’t,” Chan said as he tried to teach his son a lesson.

“They have to fight their own battles. When you get to sit in first class, because of your own hard work, then that’s success,” he added.

The actor said that he will donate his money to charity instead of giving them to his son.

“If he is capable, he can make his own money. If he is not, then he will just be wasting mine.”
