‘My Husband Calls Me A Bad Mom After I Asked Him If He Could Stay With Our Baby For A Few Hours So I Could Take A Break’

An exhausted mother has shared how her husband called her a bad mother after she asked him if he could stay with their 3-month-old baby for a few hours so she could finally take a break.

Writing on Mumsnet, the mother explained that her husband was a good dad and helps around the house but he also has lots of hobbies and is usually out of the house.

She also said that her husband has football three days a week and works hybrid so he’s only in the office for some days.

However, the exhausted mother said that her husband has never done a night feed and doesn’t even want to take their little one in the morning to let her get more sleep. He has only watched over their daughter on his own twice.

When she asked him if he could take care of their daughter for a few hours so she could take a break, he became furious.

“Then I proceeded to say it would be a nice break for me to take away the mental load and I know she’ll be fine. He only took the ‘it will be a break for me’ and said ‘you act like you are so hard done by’ and proceeded to say ‘you need a break from our 3 month old daughter? Really.’”

Her furious husband then stood up, left the room and returned only to tell her that if she needed a break from their daughter, she should just take the whole weekend.

“This was all in very hostile and nasty tone he was implying that I am a bad mum for wanting to go out with my friend shopping for 3 hours,” she added.

Fellow parents were quick to share their thoughts on the situation, with one person saying: “How dare he gaslight you into to thinking you are a bad mother! He is the father of the child and as your childs father it is he that needs to take on some of the responsibilities in raising that child, spending time alone without you present.”

Another said: “Honestly just leave him. What’s the point in his presence if you’re essentially single parenting at this point anyway.”
