In one of her viral videos, Julie said the phenomenon “actually happens so often that put it in our educational packets that we give to the patient and their loved ones so they understand what’s going on.”

She revealed that they don’t know why it occurs but she has witnessed dying patients talk about seeing their loved ones before their passing, mostly during lucid and awake moments.

Julie described it as one of the things that happen “during the death and dying process that medical professionals like myself cannot explain.”

“They’re usually not afraid, it’s usually very comforting to them,” the hospice nurse expressed, adding that many patients have said that their departed loved ones deliver messages like “We’re coming to get you soon.”

Providing a better understanding of the ‘actively dying phase,’ she said that patients usually exhibit signs such as changes in skin color, consciousness, and breathing, fevers, and terminal secretions.

Julie also tries to correct the misconceptions that suggest hospices hasten death, explaining that the facilities aim to provide a space of dignity and peace for people in their final days.
