The Duke and Duchess of Sussex never wanted to be on the balcony of the Buckingham Palace with the Queen for her celebrations of the Platinum Jubilee, a friend of the couple claims.
Omid Scobie, who wrote a biography of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, said that the Duke had already talked to the Queen about the possibility of not being present for Trooping the Colour.
He also said that the Sussexes are still ‘very keen’ to be part of the arrangements, including the Thanksgiving celebrations at St. Paul’s Cathedral.
Scobie wrote on Yahoo News and said that news about Meghan and Harry not be appearing on the Buckingham Palace balcony with the Queen shouldn’t come as a shock.
“As is often the case, the reality is much less severe when you hear that Prince Harry had already spoken with his grandmother about the possibility of not attending Trooping the Colour long before last week’s announcements,” he said.
There were reports that despite not appearing on the balcony for Trooping the Colour, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex could still make a second balcony appearance.
Her Majesty’s decision is not likely to fall comfortably with other members of the Royal Family, especially Prince William, who was left angered and hurt by his brother’s behavior.
However, sources said that the siblings would put their feelings to the side for the sake of the Queen.
One said: “Despite what has happened in recent years and what may be yet to come given that Harry’s memoirs have yet to come out, family members will accept the Queen’s olive branch in the spirit it was extended. The body language will be fascinating, mind you.”
Another said: “At the end of the day it is about celebrating the historic achievement of a truly remarkable woman. No one would want to disrespect the Queen by continuing hostilities in public.”
