Prince Harry and Meghan Markle ‘should be congratulated’ for keeping their vow to stand on their feet as records show that the couple are now financially independent.
It was in 2020 when the Duke and Duchess of Sussex stepped down as senior royals and work to become financially independent.
Statements shared by the Sovereign Grant report show the likes of the Queen, the Prince of Wales, and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge continue to cost taxpayers huge amounts.
Meghan and Harry, who are living in their Montecito mansion in California, are no longer receiving funds from Prince Charles.
A source close to the future King said that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex “should be congratulated on achieving their goal” as they managed to earn millions on their own.
The remaining members of the Royal Family have collectively cost taxpayers over £100million ($122m) as the country struggled in the cost of living crisis.
“It’s not right,” said royal finances expert Norman Baker.
In 2020, Meghan and Harry announced Megxit and said: “After many months of reflection and internal discussions we have chosen to make a transition this year in starting to carve out a progressive new role within this institution.
“We intend to step back as ‘senior’ members of the Royal Family and work to become financially independent, while continuing to fully support Her Majesty The Queen.
“It is with your encouragement, particularly over the last few years, we feel prepared to make this adjustment.”
Since they stepped down from their royal duties, the Sussexes have signed deals that are thought to be worth millions of dollars.
One of the deals is with Spotify, which is reported to be worth $25 million. Another deal is with Netflix, which they will work with to create “content that informs but also gives hope.”
It is not clear how much the Netflix deal is worth but some reports say that it could be more than $100 million.
