Prince Harry and Meghan bought a $300 floral two-tier strawberry buttercream cake for their daughter Lilibet’s first birthday.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex hosted a ‘relaxed’ garden party in the Windsor estate with picnic snacks, balloons, party games, and birthday cake.
Lilibet’s cake was adorned with pink-hued flowers, covered in buttercream, and complete with elderflower and Amalfi lemon filling. It also featured the birthday celebrant’s name.
Baker Claire Ptak, who also made Harry and Meghan’s wedding cake in 2018 – described the cake as having ‘three layers of vanilla sponge drizzled with elderflower syrup and filled with Amalfi lemon curt.’
The sides and top of the mouthwatering treat are ‘iced with a buttercream scented with the juice and zest of lemons from the Amalfi coast, and decorated with chopped candied Amalfi lemon peel.’
Ptak took to Instagram and wrote: “It was an absolute pleasure to make this special cake last week for Lilibet’s birthday. Wishing her a very happy year ahead!”
The baker added: “The inside was the Amalfi lemon and elderflower cake I created for the Duke and Duchess’s wedding in 2018, but this time we covered it with a strawberry buttercream specially for Lilibet.”
A spokesperson for the couple did not name family members who attended Lilibet’s birthday party. Prince William, Kate, and their children George and Charlotte were reportedly in Wales to represent the Queen but Zara and Mike Tindall are believed to have attended the party.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex and their children left the following day – one hour before the grand finale of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations.
A source told The Sun and said of the party: “It was a lovely do and had everything you’d expect from a child’s birthday party.”
