A bride-to-be broke down in tears after her boyfriend proposed to her with a ‘hideous’ engagement ring that was different from the one she really wanted.
The woman said that the ‘monster’ ring even got stuck on her finger, forcing her to look for a hospital for five hours so she could have it cut off.
In a post on a ring shaming group, she said that all of her engagement photos were taken in the hospital.
“I was very excited for the proposal, then this thing came out of the box,” the woman said.
She wanted an $8,859 teal sapphire ring but her boyfriend refused to buy it.
“First thing I said was ‘omg that’s massive.’ I didn’t like it at all but I spent a few hours trying to not hate it so much,” she expressed.
In her post, which calls on viewers to shame the ring, she also shared a photo of the ring she wanted.
“The size was even wrong,” she wrote. “I’m devastated and crying. He can’t get me another ring because it won’t be possible before the wedding. I’ll never be engaged for real.”
Instead of shaming the ring, many people in the group told the woman to reconsider their relationship.
“This was obviously important to you and if he can’t listen and respect you enough to do this right it sounds like there might be bigger issues at play,” one person wrote.
“Sounds like you are compromising a lot and not getting any of what you want in return. Postpone the wedding. Don’t do it this way. If he isn’t even listening or caring now… well.. I speak from experience and a divorce,” another wrote.
But others were on her boyfriend’s side, with one person saying: “Spend the money on something with value. Same goes for the wedding. I suggest a different woman.”
Another said: “Massive red flag right there – if he has any sense he’ll dump her.”
