A couple has been slammed online after asking strangers for donations so they could have their dream wedding.
The story went viral after it was shared on Reddit by a Canadian woman who claimed to have known a bride-to-be who started a GoFundMe page with the intention of raising $10,000 together with her husband for their perfect wedding.
She went on to admit she was left in “complete awe” at the couple’s boldness and their attempt to use the platform to raise money for such a selfish cause.
And while it’s not clear how much they actually managed to raise, commentators were quick to slam the pair and brand them as “entitled” and “self-absorbed.”
“Why on Earth would anyone outside their immediate family donate anything to them? How entitled do you have to be to even expect something?” one baffled user pondered.
“I always think that couples like this who are so focused on the perfect wedding day are going to end up divorced in a year. The wedding is just the beginning, not the finish line,” another said.
After several viewers expressed their concerns over the authenticity of the story, the poster also shared screenshots of the fundraiser as proof.
“Imagine the radiant glow of the setting sun as we exchange vows under a beautiful, vine covered pergola. Picture the smiles, the tears of joy, and the collective embrace of our loved ones, celebrating our union. With your help, we can transform this vision into a reality that will echo through our lives for years to come,” the couple wrote.
“Like many other hopeful young couples, we are facing financial constraints that have limited our ability to plan the wedding we have always dreamed of. This is where your generosity and support can make a tremendous difference in our lives.
“We decided to set up this GoFundMe campaign to humbly ask for your support in making our dream wedding a reality.”
The pair went on to recall their fun times while insisting that any donation, big or small, would be appreciated big time.
