A man revealed that he skipped his son’s wedding to spend time with his son’s ex-wife instead.

The father in question, whom we shall call Robert, asked the internet for advice as he explained that he despises his son, Will, because he believes the young man had mistreated his ex-wife in the past.

According to Robert, Will and his ex-wife got married when they were just 19. While he tried to convince his son to delay the marriage because both of them were still young, the pair proceeded by tying the knot.

In the years that followed, Will and his wife welcomed two children, but their relationship was far from what one would call a happy marriage.

As the young lady told Richard and her husband’s mother, Will would allegedly always blame her for everything while refusing to take responsibility for his shortcomings.

The couple eventually filed for divorce only for Will to announce on Facebook that he was in a new relationship just three days later.

“She knew no one aside from us. She had nowhere to go with two small children. Unbeknownst to our son, my wife and I helped her financially and got her an apartment,” Robert explained.

He went on to reveal that his son soon decided to marry his new partner despite failing to properly care for his ex-wife and their two children.

When the time of the wedding arrived, Robert decided to skip the event to go spend time with his son’s ex-wife instead. While his wife attended the wedding, the man’s daughter also sided with Will’s ex and went with her father to pay her a visit.

“My daughter and I decided to spend the evening with his ex. I couldn’t imagine her sitting alone, while her kids’ attended their father’s wedding,” Robert added.

“She was taken aback that I didn’t end up attending his wedding. We took her out to distract her mind. I just wanted her to know, she’ll always be considered family to us. She was very tearfully grateful, I realized just how badly she needed our support and specifically on that night.”

Following the event, Will confronted his father and accused him of not being supportive while insisting he should prioritize him and his new partner over the mother of his grandchildren.

Will also accused the man of being a “horrible father” while dubbing his actions the “ultimate form of betrayal.”

Robert has since shared his story on Reddit where hundreds of viewers sided with him and applauded him for standing up for his son’s mistreated ex-wife.

“He’s honestly giving me either narcissistic or even potentially abusive vibes unfortunately. I feel bad for his ex wife,” someone wrote.

“I admire you for knowing who your son is and not condoning it and being there for your ex daughter-in-law,” another said.
