Eminem seemed to have responded to Gen Zers who are trying to ‘cancel’ him.
It started when a video was shared on TikTok and amassed more than a million views. In the clip, the rapper’s lyrics had been described as ‘toxic’ as his part in ‘Love the Way You Lie’ played in the background.
“To everyone that is canceling him I literally love u,” the poster said. “Yesssss let’s cancel him.”
In the song, Eminem raps this line that many deemed to be ‘homophobic’ and ‘misogynistic.’
“If she ever tries to f**king leave again / I’mma tie her to the bed and set this house on fire.”
The TikTok post sparked a debate between some Gen Z cancel culture advocates and Millenial stans.
It appears that Eminem has become aware of the conflict over his lyrics and released an animated video for his 2020 song ‘Tone Deaf.’
The 48-year-old raps: “I can’t understand a word you say, I’m tone deaf. I think this way I prefer stay, I’m tone deaf. I won’t stop even when my hair turns grey, I’m tone deaf. ‘Cause they won’t stop until they cancel me.”
Fans were quick to praise Eminem’s response, with one person commenting: “This is a wonderful response to Gen Z last (failed) attempt to cancel Eminem… We love our petty boy Marshall.”
Another said: “Gen Z and tik tok is very different, in gen Z and I grew up with artists like em. I don’t get triggered over baby things I’m not a snowflake, and 90% of people I know around my age aren’t snowflakes either.”
A third said: “Yes of course we don’t have to generalize. There are a lot of gen Z who love Em. I guess It’s just Tik Tok that’s so dumb.”
