Emily Ratajkowski has sparked debate after saying that getting divorced before or by the age of 30 is ‘chic’.
The 32-year-old model has shared her thoughts about getting divorced before the age of 30 following reports that Joe Jonas, 34, and Sophie Turner, 27, have decided to separate ways after being married for only four years.
Sharing her own experiences on getting married young then divorcing, Emily said: “So it seems that a lot of ladies are getting divorced before they turn 30, and as someone who got married at 26 and has been separated for a little over a year [at] 32, I have to tell you I don’t think there’s anything better.”
The model went on: “Being in your 20s is the trenches, there is nothing better than being in your thirties, still being hot, [*having boundaries], maybe having a little bit of your own money, figuring out what you want to do with your life – everything.
“And having tried that married fantasy and realizing that it’s maybe not all it’s cracked up to be and you’ve got your whole life still ahead of you.”
She concluded: “So for all those people who are stressed or feeling stressed about that, about being divorced, like, it’s good – congratulations. Congratulations.”
Emily’s opinion sparked a lengthy debate on social media, with one person commenting: “A woman speaking against societies rules and traditions to put mental health and happiness first is not out of touch or delusional. figuring out what you want in life at a young age is so important no matter who disagrees. good for her.”
Another said: “Emily Ratajkowski (who has a personal net worth of at least 8 million dollars) is glamorizing divorce and says marriage is a ‘fantasy’. Completely out of touch and delusional. Sadly, women look up to her.”
