‘It’s Hard To Lose One Child To Get A New One!’ Cher Opens Up About Her Son Chaz’s Transition And How The Event Was ‘Difficult’ For Her

Cher has opened up about her son Chaz’s transition in an interview with LA Times, describing the event as ‘difficult’ for her.

It was in 2009 when Chaz came out as transgender, and even though Cher brushed shoulders with many stars from the LGBTQ+ community throughout her career, she found it difficult to navigate her son’s major transition.

“That was difficult for me,” the diva expressed. “It shouldn’t have been because, you know, I’ve had gay friends forever. I just met some beautiful trans chicks and we have an affinity. Now I’m totally fine.”

Cher explained that the difficulty she experienced was not completely about her son’s transitioning but the anticipation of seeing who Chaz would turn into.

“It’s hard to lose one child to get a new one, especially so late,” the Believe hitmaker said.

“I think that was the hard thing for me. I don’t think it was the transition. It was waiting to see who the person would be, and would they be so much different than the person that was before them.”

Cher had previously admitted that she wasn’t able to handle her son’s transition with grace. Speaking about that time, she said: “It took me a minute. Because you’ve been with a child for 40 years, and then all of a sudden … but you know what? Chaz was so happy!”

Chaz, a musician, writer, and activist, became the first transgender contestant to appear on Dancing With The Stars in 2011.

Cher is currently dating Alexander Edwards, 36, with the diva confirming their relationship in a social media post last November.
