Marvel star Carrie Bernans, 29, has been left critically injured and unable to walk after being hit by a car during New Year’s Eve celebrations.
A representative for the actress confirmed in a statement to PEOPLE that the incident happened in the early hours of Monday.
The new mom reportedly sustained serious injuries due to the crash.
Taking to Instagram Stories, the Black Panther told her fans that she ‘cant walk yet’ because of the injuries, which include multiple broken bones.
According to TMZ, she was knocked unconscious after being hit by a vehicle.
Bernans has also asked her fans to ‘pray for her strength’ as she stays in the hospital where she continues to receive support and medical care.
Fortunately, her baby was not at the scene when the incident occurred.
The incident occurred during a police pursuit.
Officers responded to reports of physical altercation involving a 34-year-old woman and a 44-year-old male driver of a Mercedes in the vicinity of 33rd Street and 6th Avenue.
A police statement obtained by PEOPLE read: “Officers on foot attempted to de-escalate the situation and ordered the male operator of the vehicle to put the vehicle into park.
“The male failed to obey the officers’ orders and fled westbound on 33rd Street before making a right turn onto 7th Avenue counter-flow to traffic.”
The Mercedes reportedly veered onto westbound West 34th Street before crashing into a food cart and struck multiple pedestrians, including Bernans.
The driver then mounted the curb onto the sidewalk and crashed with two parked vehicles and another car in the roadway.
After the chaos, officers apprehended the driver and placed him into custody.
