A bride and groom made headlines after missing their own wedding reception following an incident in a hotel elevator.
Victoria and Panav Jha from North Carolina were excitedly riding an elevator to their wedding reception on the 16th floor of the Grand Bohemian hotel when the lift suddenly came to a stop.
Not only was their ride interrupted, but the couple was also unable to leave the elevator, meaning that their only option was to sit down and wait to be rescued.
As Victoria and Panav explained, it took hours for the fire crews to rescue them and the other wedding guests who were also trapped in the elevator.
By the time the rescue was completed, the party has unfortunately already come to an end.
“When it first happened, I thought it had stopped for a few seconds. It’ll restart. And then we noticed that the door was just slightly ajar,” Mr. Jha recalled in an interview with WJZY.
Speaking to CNN, he added: “We got up maybe five feet, and then boom, the doors kind of stuck. Then the doors started to open, so I could see the concrete wall right in front of me, and I could see the concrete wall behind me, and I was like, that’s not normal.”
Meanwhile, Victoria admitted the incident was that much more of a nuisance due to the fact that they missed their party because of it.
“Elevator had a glitch and here we are. It had to happen with the groom and I both stuck in the elevator. So, at least it wasn’t just one of us,” she said.
“They harnessed me up, got me in full gear, and pulled me up four floors with a fireman.”
Fortunately, everything ended without injuries, and the couple was more than happy to pose for a few pictures along with the firefighters that came to the rescue!
