People have rallied around a young boy whose small business to help his struggling family was shut down because of his jealous neighbors.
12-year-old Jesse Lane was just selling cold drinks, dog treats, sunscreen and insect repellant outside his home in Sydney.
But the Randwick Council just voted to close his thriving business after receiving two complaints from grumpy locals who said he should not be allowed to use public land to earn money.
This comes after the council warned the young boy that his ‘Jesse’s Shop’ could be shut down permanently if he failed to secure insurance.
Jesse then took out an insurance plan and submitted an official trading application. But after months of anticipation, it has been rejected by the council.
Up to 6000 residents have signed a petition in support for the young boy’s shop.
On the ‘Coogee Local Loop’ Facebook group, locals have praised the 12-year-old boy and encouraged others to support his stall.
“If you happen to be walking past the young Jesse at the top of Dunningham Reserve who on weekends and school holidays is just trying to make some pocket money by selling drinks, dog treats and sunscreen, please stop and sign his petition. He is not in anybody’s way or bothering anyone,” the poster wrote.
The post also described Jesse as a respectful and polite young man.
“It seems there has already been a complaint by a couple of disapproving people to have him moved on!” the post continued.
“To them I say, get a life, leave the kid alone, and how about you complain about the inconsiderates with their dogs off leash instead!”
One fan said: “We should be applauding him, not making complaints.”
Another commented: “He’s saving for his future he said, to buy a car and things. Very bright kid. I hope he continues to do great.”
