A 37-year-old woman has shared how people told her that she should be angry for being a grandmother at a young age even though she was proud of the situation.
Taking to TikTok, Misty Dawn Hight said that she’s excited and delighted that her grandchild will be able to know her but viewers were not impressed.
“Y’all keep asking how I’m gonna be a grandmother, so let me explain,” the mother-of-four said.
Misty then told her followers that her daughter Rileigh, 20, was pregnant with her first child.
“I got pregnant with Rileigh at 15, and I was with her dad from 12-21-years-old,” she explained, adding that she married her daughter’s dad when she was 19 but they separated ways only two years later.
She also shared that she asked her mother to put her on birth control but she refused.
Misty gave birth to her first child in 2003 at the age of 16, saying she was ‘very naïve’ at that time.
Her video received more than 58k likes and over 1,000 comments, with many expressing their disbelief at how young she looked while others accused her of promoting teen pregnancy.
One person commented: “This isn’t something to be proud of.”
Another said: “You look like you’re maybe 22 – we need to know your skincare routine.”
A third shared: “I had my daughter at 15, she had her son at 19 – I became a grandmother at 34.”
Someone else also revealed: “I became a grandmother at 34, as did my mum and her mum!”
