The only pair of white giraffes in the entire world, who lived in Kenya is no more.
The adult female giraffe and her baby lived together in Kenya.
After the adult female was killed by the poachers, her baby died due to starvation too and it is extremely sad news for the Ishaqbini Hirola Community and the entire world.
The death of the pair was reported by Garissa County conservation center in a press conference. The conference was conducted on Tuesday revealing how the body of the mother giraffe was found in a skeleton state by the rangers.
The manager of Ishaqbini Hirola Conservancy, Mohammed Ahmednoor said “It is an exceptionally sad day for Kenya and Ishaqbini Hirola Community.
The community is the custodian of the rare white Giraffe and a poacher killed the beautiful female. This is a wakeup call for the community that has worked tremendously to support the rare animals and one of them is killed.
Apparently, this pair was the only living white giraffes in the world.”
While the mother was found in the state of a skeleton, the calf was not. The calf was not killed by poachers. The experts believe it starved to death as the calf waited next to its mother’s dead body.
The loss is a very long term and the poachers should pay for it. The pair was the only living white giraffe as they had a condition called leucism.
The condition steals pigment from the most part of the body. Unlike in the cases of albinism, the eyes of these giraffes were black instead of bright red.
The people of the community said that the giraffes were a major attraction for tourists too bringing tourism and employment to the region.
The giraffes could only survive 2 years in the world after being discovered in 2017. Yes, it is terrible to know that just in 2 years, the exquisitely beautiful giraffe has been killed.
